Keeping Funerals Affordable28th November 2018
Funerals are one of the fastest rising costs in the UK.
Back in 2004, a basic funeral would have cost you around £1,900, compared with today’s average of £4,798 for a burial and £3,744 for a cremation funeral*. If this current trend continues, a funeral could cost over £7,000 within a decade.
Of course, there are a number of factors which will influence costs. As well as the funeral director’s fees, the price of a funeral also includes several disbursements (or third-party fees). These include cremation and burial fees (the average cost of which has risen by 6.5% and 7% respectively since 2015), doctor’s fees and minister’s fees.
Optional cost considerations include the type of memorial headstone, transport, flowers, funeral notice, order of service sheets, as well as venue hire and catering for a wake.
If you are arranging a loved one’s funeral, your funeral director should be crystal clear about their own prices and should guide you as to how much you will need to budget for all other costs. This will help you to plan a commemoration that is both affordable and in line with your family’s wishes.
At WR Bettelley we strive to keep our funerals affordable for everyone with a range of flexible options. Our funeral packages start from as little as £1,590 (excluding third party costs), whilst the average cost for one of our funerals is around £500 cheaper than today’s national average.
An increasing number of people are opting for a pre-paid funeral plan. This is a good way to ensure that most of the cost of your funeral will be covered before you die, meaning you don’t leave your family with a hefty bill. According to the Funeral Planning Authority, the number of funeral plans sold in the UK has increased by 54% over the past 5 years.
We offer a range of pre-paid funeral plans in association with Golden Charter, the only funeral plan provider recommended by the Society of Allied & Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF). As one of the country’s leading providers, Golden Charter has already helped more than half a million people with their funeral planning needs.
Funeral expenses can lead to a great deal of stress and anxiety at what is an already difficult time. We’ll help to guide you through the process and explain all costs clearly, making sure that everything stays within your budget.
